Select shipping country

In order to provide you with the final prices of the products (including taxes and transport costs), we need you to select the country of destination from the following list of countries.

On 1 July 2021 the One-Stop Shop (OSS) directive for e-commerce came into force. This will require us to apply the V.A.T. rate corresponding to the destination country of the shipment.

Our tomatoes

RAF tomatoes from El Perelló, the village next to Cullera, in Spain, bought fresh and in season from the local cooperative. We do not grow them, but we choose them as if we did and ship them semi-ripe, so they finish ripening in your kitchen and arrive whole.

It is a tomato with a short season and a small crop: a few weeks between May and June. Ribbed, with green shoulders and dense flesh, sweet with good acidity: for eating raw with extra virgin olive oil and salt. Keep it at room temperature, never in the fridge.

Boxes of 4.3, 8.6 and 12.9 kg, and mixed boxes with seasonal oranges from our groves, VAT and shipping included. If it is not available, sign up for the alert and we will email you when we have it.

Varieties and season

Each box carries the variety that is at its best that day. Here are all the ones that pass through our boxes over the year, with their harvest time and what to expect from each.

The full profile of each variety is on the oranges page.

‘RAF’ means “Resistant to Fusarium”. It was developed in France by the company Clause around 1961 through selection from the Marmande type and other American lines with resistance to the Fusarium fungus. It was officially registered as a variety in 1967. It is not an F1 hybrid, but a field variety derived from artificial selection. Although historically associated with the Vega de Almería in Spain, it does not come from traditional Valencian collections of IVIA or COMAV but it is commercially grown in the Comunitat Valenciana.

    Characteristics

Semi-determinate or determinate plant, medium vigor; robust foliage and normal leaves; typical tomato flowers except for the fruit’s sensitivity to excess moisture on the shoulders. Fruit of medium size, weight between 100 and 250 g, rounded to slightly flattened shape, with deep ribs (“ribbed”) and a very marked green neck that may persist when ripening at the base. Skin thin and somewhat delicate. Dense, fleshy, juicy pulp, with small seeds. Exterior color intense green with dark shoulders; ripening progresses from the inside to the outside. Sweet flavor with a good balance of acidity; in analysis it reaches approximately 6-9 ºBrix at the optimal ripening point.

    Harvest time

It is grown mainly in winter and early spring in Almería, although its commercial availability can extend if grown under plastic. In the Comunitat Valenciana the optimal window coincides with that winter-spring season. It does not tolerate being left on the plant for too long after full ripening because quality (texture and flavor) deteriorates quickly after reaching the “turning” point (green-orange). It is better to harvest when the red coloration begins at the base, just at the onset of ripening, to maximize flavor.

    Culinary uses

Suitable mainly for fresh consumption: salads, gazpachos, salmorejos, simple dressings with oil and salt. It is not suitable for stews or cooking that requires prolonged cooking since it loses part of its fine texture. It is valued for its aromatic flavor, sweetness, and crunchy texture. In Mediterranean cuisine it is usually eaten simply sliced with extra virgin olive oil. It is not usually used for large-scale industrial processing, but it can be used for artisanal juices or gourmet products.

    Agronomic notes

Moderate-low productivity per plant; the plant yields about 4-5 kg under optimal conditions, much less than commercial hybrid varieties. Marked varietal alternation if good soil and irrigation conditions are not maintained. Sensitive to cold and excess moisture, especially on the shoulders of the fruit; common pests such as whitefly, aphid and fungal diseases; it exhibits resistance to Fusarium (Fusarium oxysporum) in roots. Robust rootstock pattern if greater resistance to diseased soil is desired. Limited postharvest: fruit fragility requires careful handling; short storage, best kept fresh in the short term, without prolonged storage chambers due to skin sensitivity and rapid loss of aroma and texture.

RAF tomatoes from the El Perelló cooperative

We do not grow the RAF tomatoes we sell: we buy them from the cooperative in El Perelló, the village next door, where they are grown in the sand by the sea. They are fresh, seasonal tomatoes, bought as we ship them.

  • Grown in the sand of El Perelló, a stone's throw from our groves, by the farmers of the village cooperative.

  • Short season, between May and June. We buy them fresh as we ship them.

  • The oranges in the mixed boxes on this page are our own: picked on the morning of dispatch and with nothing after harvest.

From El Perelló to your door

We are growers, not middlemen. This is what happens between pressing "buy" and opening the box.

  1. You choose the box and the shipping day

Boxes of 4.3, 8.6, 9.3, 12.9, 13.6 and 14.3 kg. When you order you see the next planned shipping day and can switch it for another on the calendar.

  2. We collect it from the cooperative

The RAF tomato is not from our groves: we buy it from the El Perelló cooperative, a stone's throw from Cullera, fresh and in season.

  3. Semi-ripe, and into the box

It travels with green shoulders so it finishes ripening in your kitchen and arrives whole. The oranges alongside it in the mixed boxes are our own, picked that same morning.

  4. At your door in 2-4 working days

The courier delivers it to you in Netherlands. The price you see already includes VAT and shipping: no surprises at checkout.

Frequently asked questions

Are the tomatoes yours?

No. We buy them from the cooperative in El Perelló, the village next door, where the RAF is grown in the sand. They are fresh, seasonal tomatoes, but not from our groves.

Why do they arrive green?

Because the RAF is sold semi-ripe, with green shoulders, and finishes ripening at home; fully red it would arrive soft. Leave it at room temperature, never in the fridge, and in a few days it is at its best.

When do you have tomatoes?

Between May and June, for a few weeks. It is a tomato with a short season and a small crop: if it is not available, sign up for the alert and we will email you when we have it.

How do you eat it?

Raw: sliced with extra virgin olive oil and salt, in a salad or in gazpacho. It is a tomato with dense flesh and a sweet flavour with good acidity; it is not meant for cooking.

Which variety of orange will I get?

Whichever is at its best on the day of dispatch. We start in November with Navelina, move on to Lane Late in February and close between May and June with Barberina and València Late. At the top of this page we tell you which one is in the box today.

Can I change the split in kilos?

Only the combinations you see on this page. For reasons of work organisation we do not prepare open formats, but there are splits to suit almost every taste.

What if one of the fruits is out of season?

The box cannot be ordered until all its fruits are on the tree. We tell you when we usually have it again and you can sign up for the alert.

Which variety does each fruit come as?

Whichever is at its best that day, just as in the single-fruit boxes. The calendar above shows which variety is due at each time of year.

What treatments does this fruit receive?

Over the year, those of conventional farming, always with EU-authorised products and under the EUREP standard; some of the groves receive none. After harvest, none: no wax, no fungicides, no preservatives.

When will my order arrive?

We ship it on the shipping day you choose when you order and the courier delivers it in 2-4 working days, depending on where you live. The shipping conditions include the calendar with the shipping days and the most likely delivery day for each one.

Which countries do you ship to?

Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, with shipping included in the price. Delivery country and language are chosen separately in the header: you can browse in any language and ship to any of those countries. When you choose the country, prices adjust to include taxes and shipping to it.

Why does the price change by country?

The fruit costs the same for everyone. What changes is each country's VAT and, above all, the shipping: every country has its own carriers and rates, and where we ship the most we get better deals and delivery costs less. Everything is included in the price you see, with no surprises at checkout.

Shall we send it from the tree to your door?

Choose the box above and the shipping day when you order. If it is out of season right now, we will let you know with a single message when we start picking.
