The tomato from El Perelló: From the sand of our childhood to your table

The tomato from El Perelló: From the sand of our childhood to your table

Vicent Castelló Fos 165 12 May 2026

In Naranjas de Cullera we always say that we are farmers first and foremost. And in my case, this is a literal reality. Before I took charge of ensuring that all the technology in this house works precisely, my "office" was the sandy fields of El Perelló.

A shared tradition

Those of us who grew up in our region share a common heritage: helping at home. As a teenager, upon returning from school or during weekends, the most natural thing was to head to the garden to lend a hand to my parents. I was not the only one; it was the way of life of an entire town dedicated to its Cooperative.

There, alongside my father, a member of the Cooperativa Unión Protectora (UNIPRO), I learned to respect a unique crop in the world. The tomato from El Perelló does not grow in ordinary soil, but in beach sand. This salinity of the environment forces the plant to strive, concentrating a flavor and texture that cannot be found anywhere else.

More than 75 years of cooperative pride

This know-how is not a product of chance. The Cooperative of El Perelló has over 75 years of history, being the pillar of our identity. Generation after generation, the families of the town have perfected the cultivation, turning it into a gastronomic reference that we celebrate every year at the Tomato Fair of El Perelló.

This event, which usually takes place at the beginning of June, is the moment when our town opens up to the world to proudly showcase the fruit of so much accumulated effort. It is a must-attend event for any lover of good products who wants to get to know our tradition up close.

Why the RAF variety?

Although many high-quality varieties are produced in our area, at Naranjas de Cullera we have specifically selected the RAF tomato. Not only for its unmistakable sweet and ribbed flavor, but because it is the variety that best maintains its properties and firmness during transport. Its structure guarantees that it will arrive at any point in Europe in optimal conditions, preserving all the essence of the sand from my town as if it had just been harvested.

From the field to the system: Ensuring the essence

That culture of effort and respect for the product is what we apply today at Naranjas de Cullera. My task has been to transfer all that agricultural wisdom to the digital age, computerizing every process—from production to shipping—to ensure that traceability and quality are total, complying with the most demanding protocols. Technology is not here to change the product, but to protect it and ensure that it reaches your home with the same freshness as when I picked it as a young man.

The best of our land on your table

By purchasing this tomato on our website, you take home the result of decades of tradition:

  • Intense flavor: A perfect balance between sweet and sour.
  • Resistance and freshness: The ideal variety for traveling all over Europe without losing a bit of quality.
  • Origin guarantee: The seal of a cooperative that has been the driving force of our region for over seven decades.

I invite you to remember that when you receive your order, behind each piece there is not only technology and logistics, but the heart and history of an entire town.

Enjoy your meal!
