Table oranges or juice oranges? Why real quality is not measured by the peel or the size
The fruit trade has traditionally taught us to look for a very specific aesthetic standard: a large orange, deep orange in colour and with a flawless peel. Any fruit that strayed even slightly from this perfect pattern was usually classed straight away as a «juice orange», relegated to a supposed second category or lower quality.
However, as we have shared on other occasions on our blog (see Ugly oranges), for years the values that really matter when judging an orange have been left out of the equation: genuine flavour, freshness and the absence of chemical treatments after harvest.
Beauty (and quality) is on the inside
We know that we often eat with our eyes first. Yet we are convinced —and we know more and more consumers feel the same— that looks should never compromise the real quality of what we eat.
For us, what makes the difference in a good orange is:
- Real freshness: fruit picked at its optimum point of ripeness.
- Genuine flavour: natural sweetness and acidity, the way oranges used to taste.
- Zero artificial treatments: no waxes or chemicals added after harvest to alter their appearance or artificially extend their shelf life.
Our philosophy: all our oranges are top quality
That is why, in our project, we make no distinction between «table oranges» and «juice oranges».
Although we set aside for industry the fruit that is too small or shows damage that could compromise its keeping, in our boxes you will find the reality of the orchard: oranges of different sizes and, now and then, with some natural mark on the skin.
We guarantee that those small cosmetic marks never affect the inside. When you open each box, you can be completely sure you are receiving fruit that is 100% fresh, 100% natural and with the best possible flavour.
